The Steam Controller was released on May 4. It's a part of Steam's new lineup of gaming hardware, which also includes the Steam Machine console and Steam Frame VR headset.

According to CNET gaming expert Scott Stein, this may be his "favorite controller, period." He hailed it for its precise haptics, comfortable design and speedy response time and called it an "essential part of the picture" for Steam gamers looking to expand. It's wireless with a USB transmitter that also doubles as a charging pad, and it has an impressive 35-hour battery life. Just note that it's only compatible with devices running Steam, so you can't use it with your PlayStation, Xbox or Switch.

The new Steam Controller is only available for purchase through Steam directly, so you won't find it at Amazon, Best Buy or other retailers.

As of right now, there's no official restock date for the Steam Controller. However, Steam is aiming to start shipping its console and VR headset sometime in the first half of 2026, which would likely include some controller restocks.
