One of the common criticisms levied towards Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was how much content it had to offer. Don’t get me wrong, most of its minigames were terrific fun and its open world regions weren’t as vast and empty as the worst triple-A culprits, but I wouldn’t blame anyone for skipping over certain distractions because they simply didn’t have time. I think the first game shot itself in the foot when trying to court casual audiences by calling itself a ‘Remake’ despite only containing a third of the narrative, meaning those very same people were naturally curious yet turned off by Rebirth. In the original Final Fantasy 7, Zack had almost no screen time and wasn’t playable, but he’s much more present in the remakes. He was even playable in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, so the fact that he will return in Revelation isn’t exactly shocking. By that same token, Hamaguchi’s statement about Zack’s role in “the overall game experience” as well as the narrative shouldn’t be surprising either. He'll likely be playable once again.
