More context

Recent coverage focuses on rapid Gemini feature expansion across devices, including new integrations, interface updates (overlay colors and screen-content), and deeper productivity behavior like using Drive to pull answers from Gmail. At the same time, headlines raise concerns and curiosity about real-world use—questions about what people are doing with Gemini and reports of it “forgetting” earlier than expected.

Gemini gains tighter Google Workspace reach as Google tests new troubleshooting mode

Google is extending Gemini’s reach inside its own services, with XDA saying the first step was connecting Gemini to Google Workspace so users could search and interact with emails inside the Gemini app. That points to a more agentic role for Gemini, letting it work across a user’s daily workload instead of serving only as a standalone chatbot. xda-developers.com

Android Authority also found what appears to be a new “Troubleshooting” mode in the Gemini model picker for some users. The mode is designed to provide troubleshooting steps and guidance using text and interactive widgets, and several commenters say they can already see and use it. androidauthority.com

At the same time, Google’s Gemini push is spreading into adjacent products. Android Authority says Pixel Studio’s latest update now redirects users to Nano Banana inside the Gemini app for creating images and animations, with Gemini becoming the destination for those tasks. androidauthority.com

Does Omni have a use-case in education?

Of all the things Google claims Gemini Omni can do, the most ambitious is also one that's hardest to verify from a demo reel alone. Google says that the model "combines an intuitive understanding of physics" with "Gemini's knowledge of history, science, and cultural context to bridge photorealism and meaningful storytelling." Testing that claim by asking the model to visualize a diagram I found in a textbook makes it far too easy. To stress-test this, I decided to rely exclusively on text-based prompts, giving the model nothing to work from except a written brief. For the first prompt, I asked

Could NotebookLM be next?

There's literally a website called Killed by Google dedicated to tracking every product the company has discontinued, and at this point, the list is long enough to make anyone hesitant about getting too attached to a Google product (no matter how good it may be). Given that NotebookLM spent months as an experiment in Labs, then graduated from it and became a full-fledged product and is where it is today, I don't really think it'll get killed off. But what I covered in the section above does seem plausible. NotebookLM could stop being its own thing, and just become a tab inside Gemini. All that
