Samsung’s next foldables leak ahead of July launch, while Ring 2 quietly enters development

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z foldables are leaking rapidly ahead of an expected July unveiling, with the lineup said to include the Galaxy Z Fold8 wide, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. One leak says Samsung is set to unveil the new devices on July 22, with sales starting August 5. Another leak also points to Samsung having changed the naming scheme, with the Fold8 wide replacing the vanilla Fold and the Fold8 Ultra positioned as the true successor to last year’s Fold7. gsmarena.com gsmarena.com

The newest details focus on hardware: the Galaxy Z Fold8 wide is tipped to get dual 50MP rear cameras, 10MP selfie cameras on both displays, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. Its displays are listed as a 7.6-inch main panel and a 5.5-inch cover screen, while battery capacity is said to be 4,800 mAh with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is separately described as keeping the Fold7’s 200MP main camera and 10MP telephoto lens, but upgrading the ultrawide camera to 50MP. gsmarena.com gsmarena.com

Samsung has also broken its silence on the next Galaxy Ring, confirming that a Galaxy Ring 2 is in development. A senior executive said the company plans to differentiate the new smart ring through software and services rather than hardware, and strongly hinted that it could work with iPhones. That keeps Samsung’s wearable roadmap moving even as the foldable leaks dominate the immediate launch chatter. androidauthority.com

What’s going on with the two companies?

Here’s what’s going on with Swatch and Samsung. Swatch seeks $170 million in damages from Samsung, according to court documents filed in the UK and seen by the Financial Times. It’s not over the Galaxy Watch 8 or a specific device, but about watch face apps available in Samsung’s Galaxy Store, which included replicas of the Swatch Group’s dial designs. Samsung has already been found guilty of infringing on Swatch’s trademarks, as the lawsuit has been going on for seven years now. Samsung was found liable in 2022, after the lawsuit was brought about in 2019, but delays have meant the courts are

How often do you change watch faces?

Apple’s choice of watch faces for the Apple Watch is superb. They cover all different genres, styles, and designs. The ones made for fun actually are fun, the ones influenced by watch trends look unique and stylish, and the ones for data fiends have all the numbers they’d want. I’ve worn every Apple Watch model since the very first, and never once wished Apple would open up watch face design to developers. It’s just not really needed. Samsung can’t coast along expecting developers to pick up the slack where it has failed. I suspect, like me, there will be smartwatch owners who choose one watch

Why are memory and storages prices still going up?

So what happened? AI happened. The way the world's memory market is set up relies on three major companies to supply everyone else with DRAM for consumer memory and storage. Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron realized early on in the AI boom that they could make a whole lot more money by moving away from consumer memory and into high-bandwidth memory (HBM) that's used in AI datacenters. Profit margins are enormous on the other side, and I really don't find it surprising that these massive corporations made the shift, as companies like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have essentially offered blank che
