Why Are Video Games Obsessed With Remasters And Remakes?

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy wasn’t always an unparalleled success though. I think the first game shot itself in the foot when trying to court casual audiences by calling itself a ‘Remake’ despite only containing a third of the narrative, meaning those very same people were naturally curious yet turned off by Rebirth. PlayStation exclusivity reduced potential sales further, and it was only after embracing multiple platforms that Square Enix put this trilogy back on the path to success. As it stands, it’s a triumph of the medium and presents a story across multiple games in ways few serie

Sorry Nostalgic Gamers, But Square Enix Needs To Leave Remakes Behind After Final Fantasy 7 Revelation
How Does This Benefit Final Fantasy VII Revelation?

As some may remember, the first two entries in the remake trilogy released on PC with some issues, and although some were fixed, there are still some lingering issues, such as shader compilation stuttering, that haven't been fixed yet. As such, some may expect the same to happen with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, even more considering Square Enix is working on every other version of the game as well for a multiplatform launch during Spring 2027. However, as the third and final entry in the trilogy will be powered by a heavily-modified version of Unreal Engine 4, like its immediate predecessor,

What's Next For Final Fantasy?

Earlier today, Final Fantasy Resonance was announced during a Nintendo Direct. The game is heralded by Square Enix as the "first HD-2D Final Fantasy game." Now, it's hard to see the word "first" there, and not assume that means there will be more HD-2D Final Fantasy games coming in the future. These could be original titles like Final Fantasy Resonance, but this could also be a way to remake older games at a less ambitious scale than the FF7 Remake trilogy. Square's HD-2D style is perhaps one of my favorite innovations in gaming presentation styles. It captures the retro feel of pixel-art game

It’s Officially The End Of An Era For Final Fantasy
Is there a Final Fantasy 7 Revelation release date?

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch in spring 2027 but Square Enix has not confirmed a specific date yet. Revelation is also the first game in the trilogy to launch on all platforms simultaneously, including PC. There are no PC store pages yet, but Revelation will be available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox for PC. So no store exclusivity deals this time around, either.
