Why are DDR3 RAM prices climbing in the age of Windows 11?

Windows 10 officially reached End of Life support on October 14, 2025, and with it went countless PCs running on DDR3 memory. The Windows 11 and DDR3 situation isn't caused by the new OS having any direct incompatibilities with the memory type. The DDR3 die-off was due to the processors that actually support the old RAM standard not having the requirements for Microsoft's latest OS, including a TPM 2.0 chip. If I'm not mistaken, Intel's 4th Gen "Haswell" Core chips using the LGA 1150 socket were the last major consumer platform to support DDR3, and they made their debut 13 years ago. Although

It’s 2026, DDR3 RAM is over a decade old, and the prices are still bizarrely high
What is Microsoft PC Manager?

PC Manager is a free app for Windows 11 that allows you to optimize your system. It brings together several tools and options from throughout the operating system into a unified interface. The app has a shortcut called "Boost" that frees up system resources and clears temporary files. It can also scan your PC in several ways to find ways to clear out junk files. I cleared out over 100GB from my PC in just a few minutes by using PC Manager. Admittedly, many of those files were unused items in my Downloads folder, such as media packs from press releases. But PC Manager also found applications to

Who is buying DDR3 RAM in 2026?

I totally understand why DDR4 RAM has become so valued in 2026. Plenty of relevant CPUs and motherboards still support the standard, and with DDR5 prices out of reach for most consumers, it's a natural alternative that doesn't feel like as much of a compromise. Unfortunately, DDR4 RAM has also now become unaffordable for plenty of people due to the demand. The next logical step is DDR3 RAM, but, of course, its supply is even more constrained due to its age and the fact that it's not really being produced in large quantities anymore. Considering DDR3 RAM doesn't play well with Windows 11 system

Should Microsoft bring screensavers back?

The answer depends on how Microsoft approaches the feature. If screensavers remain limited to simple animations and photo slideshows, they probably don't deserve much attention. Modern power management and lock screen customization already cover that territory more efficiently. However, if screensavers are reimagined as a modern ambient mode for Windows 11, then the idea becomes far more compelling. In that form, they could evolve into something closer to a system-level experience, turning idle screens into personalized, context-aware displays rather than simply blank or static states.

Microsoft modernized almost everything in Windows 11, but this 90s feature quietly lives on
