Sonic the Hedgehog

So, where were Sonic games ten years ago, and what was it that prompted Sega to decide it might not bother with the blue blur anymore? My guess is it was the culmination of what had come during the decade before that. Sonic '06, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and Sonic Colors, all games that aren't exactly remembered all that fondly. If I were to place exactly where Iizuka was tasked with saving Sonic - or else - then I'd put it right around the time of Sonic Forces' release in 2017.
